Ayrotv.com-Dubai- In recent years, the political landscape of the Horn of Africa, particularly Somalia, has been marred by external interventions and destabilizing policies, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerging as a significant player in this troubling narrative. The UAE’s actions in the region raise critical questions about sovereignty, regional stability, and the broader implications for the Arab and Islamic world.
Since the collapse of Somalia’s military regime, the country has faced relentless challenges to its sovereignty. Various nations, keen on exploiting Somalia’s instability, have engaged in actions that further exacerbate its plight. Ethiopia has long harboured ambitions to annexe Somali territories, taking advantage of the power vacuum created by Somalia’s turmoil. This predatory behaviour has been underpinned by a broader pattern where neighbouring countries have benefited from the suffering of the Somali people, drawing in refugees and investments while contributing to the destabilization of their homeland.
However, despite these challenges, the resilience of the Somali people has begun to shine through. Progress toward stability has been made, but questions remain about the international community’s role, particularly the United Nations and the African Union. Why have these organizations allowed Ethiopia to violate Somalia’s territorial integrity with impunity? The precedent of inviting a regional State leader to sign treaties on behalf of a sovereign nation raises serious concerns about the legitimacy and integrity of such actions.
The UAE’s involvement in Somalia and its broader strategy in the region warrants scrutiny. The UAE has been implicated in undermining not just Somalia but also the stability of Sudan, Libya, Syria, and Yemen. Its push for the recognition of “Somaliland,” a regional state within Somalia, and its alleged attempts to facilitate Ethiopian access to strategic coastal areas like Lughaya and Zayla signal a troubling trend. Such manoeuvres threaten to grant Ethiopia and, by extension, Israel, control over vital maritime routes, including the Gulf of Aden and Bab el Mandeb.
These actions suggest a deeper grievance against Arab and Muslim nations held by the UAE leadership, raising alarms about their intentions in the region. Rumours of the UAE’s collusion with local leaders in Hargeisa to establish an Ethiopian naval base further illustrate the potential for catastrophic outcomes for Somalia and neighbouring states. If true, this would not only jeopardize Somalia’s sovereignty but could also destabilize the entire region, including Egypt, Eritrea, and Sudan.
The time has come for Somalia, Egypt, and Eritrea to unite and confront the UAE’s aggressive policies. It is imperative that these nations utilize all available means to deter any encroachments by Ethiopia and the UAE upon Somali territory. A coordinated response is essential to protect their sovereignty and ensure the stability of the Arab and Muslim world.
In conclusion, the destructive actions and policies of the UAE in Somalia and the surrounding region can not be overlooked. A concerted effort is required to hold accountable those responsible for exacerbating conflicts and undermining the sovereignty of nations. The future of Somalia, and indeed the stability of the Horn of Africa, hinges on decisive action and solidarity among its neighbours. As the region navigates these turbulent waters, the voices of resilience and unity must rise above the chaos, working towards a future free from foreign exploitation and intervention.
