Ayrotv.com– A Djibouti political figure who symbolized the emblem of courage, power, pride as well as spiritual elevation, but also and above all Freedom, Independence and Resistance, from which the necessity to take the greatest care of it. He had braved pressure and violence to denounce not only for years the colonial period but also the dictatorial regime of the politics of his uncle and nephew. Shortly after publishing his autobiography, “The Circle and the Spiral” in 1984, the year he was stripped of his nationality, by the gravedigger of the Republic, in contempt of international law. In the book, the retranscription of events of history seems to be in accordance with the historical truth.
Brave and determined, in the face of oppression, he had fought the fight of his life for his homeland, freedom and dignity. He was a man of freedom and justice, who fought so that his people could free themselves from the chains that enslaved him. A man who refused to submit to the unjust power of the settlers and their trustees. Betrayed by his comrades in arms, unfortunately, he could not really enjoy this freedom to which he had given everything most precious his youth and even his life…
His fight continues through the ages.
His words, them, still echo like a mirror of our current situation: “They know that they have nothing to expect from this still-born cabinet, where impotence is combined with incompetence and where Gouled AYR (and for that reason) prefers Gourat AYR as Prime Minister, this primitive being straight out of the world.” prehistory, to a Dini AYR, only one can own in Djibouti a statesman material… [… History, they said, repeats itself twice: the first time as a tragedy, the second as a comedy. ” (p164 The circle and the spiral).
To a question he was asked: What memory do you remember about the struggle? Betrayal, betrayal, betrayal was the answer of Dr Omar Osman Rabeh AYR.
History will remember the memories of a people who sacrificed their most precious things for the recovery of their dignity and sovereignty throughout the national territory.
Contrary to a certain person… The current president of the Republic of Djibouti – now as dark as the past – was an indisputable personality having played, in the service of French colonization and the defense of colonized interests, a primary role in denouncing the independence supporters (Inspector Bérand’s special informant). But to claim that the #IOG was fired in 1976 – by the infamous criminal Ali Aref Bourhan – for his independentist ideas and, moreover, played a role of a “resistant” to save the country, is not based on any collected evidence or on any actual archive. It’s just from the imagination. Independents , IOG ? Sure point, as stated above. I’d rather say that he was a collaborator, a well-known French special services indicator.
Even today, the names of the forgotten, betrayed and outlawed national heroes do not appear on any monument, they do not appear in any Djibouti school curriculum, the worst official history is an imposed memory, in the sense that it is taught, learned, and publicly celebrated, the number of true independence supporters remains the object of objections, archives related to the event inaccessible, rare witnesses. Do we have the right to erase the memory of a people?
Obviously, it’s one thing to recognize a collective historical failure, it’s another to learn the good lessons from it. And yet, not a single person in the colonial empire ever had to account for what happened to these people. It will never be said enough how many of these crimes, evoked by many others, have contributed to the relative consensus he benefited.
I strongly salute the memory of this outlawed hero Omar Osman Rabeh, his personal commitment, and all the work he did for the sole purpose of contributing to the colonial repressive machine. His name deserves a street to immortalize his fight, a fight that is also ours. Hope for a free, more fair and sustainable nation. With for those who want to end this tribal family dictatorship.
It is quite scandalous that the State of Djibouti refuses to officially honor their sacrifice, their memory or even express its gratitude to the men and women, the forbidden heroes – by the ex-collaborators, usurpers of local power still at the head of the country – who do not ask for more.
