This alarming phenomenon is especially disheartening when those individuals come from the well-educated and intellectually rich backgrounds of the Awdal region and the Gabiley district. It raises the question: how could these individuals, who once held ministerial or parliamentary positions in either the federal government of Somalia or the so-called “Somaliland,” now claim to represent a community they have long neglected?
The motivations behind these self-proclamations are painfully transparent. As these individuals feel their political influence waning, they resort to exploiting the name of the Awdal State Movement to regain relevance and power. They have shown little to no commitment to the needs of the Awdal people during their previous tenures, where their actions were often driven by personal ambition rather than the greater good of their community. Their sudden interest in representing the Awdal region is nothing more than a desperate grab for power rather than a genuine concern for the welfare of the people.
The Awdal State Movement and its supporters are unequivocal in their rejection of such imposters. The movement stands for authentic representation, guided by the true needs and aspirations of the Awdal people. It is imperative that we align with those who have tirelessly sacrificed their time, energy, and resources in the pursuit of freedom from the tribal regime in Hargeisa. The majority of Awdal’s populace seeks leadership that is rooted in dedication and service, not self-serving ambition.
Moreover, it is crucial for local, national, and international organizations to recognize and understand the distinction between genuine representatives of the Awdal State Movement and those individuals who are simply masquerading as leaders. The Awdal State Movement welcomes anyone from the region who is committed to the cause of liberation and adheres to the movement’s policies and by-laws. However, it categorically distances itself from those who seek to undermine the movement’s objectives for their own gain.
As the Awdal region faces challenges that threaten its unity and progress, it is vital that the people remain vigilant against those who aim to sow discord and distrust. The enemies of Awdal thrive on division; it is only through solidarity and shared purpose that we can hope to achieve our collective goals. The Awdal State Movement calls upon its people to stand united, to reject the allure of false leadership, and to remain committed to the vision of a free and prosperous Awdal State.
In conclusion, the call for leadership within the Awdal State Movement must resonate with the genuine aspirations of its people. We must be wary of self-declared representatives who, in their quest for relevance, attempt to manipulate the identity and struggles of our community.
