DJIBOUTI, 23 April 2025 (ADI) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi on Wednesday morning began a 24-hour working visit to Djibouti, welcomed at the capital’s International Airport by his Djibouti counterpart, Ismail Omar Guelleh.

At the foot of the plane, a hedge of honor, national anthems chanted by fanfares, and a review of the troops gave the arrival of the head of the Egyptian State all the scenery reserved for the highest authorities. Ministers, diplomats and senior civil and military officials of Djibouti were gathered for this solemn moment.

This visit is part of a strategic approach assumed between Djibouti and Cairo, two capitals that share a common vision of regional stability and converging geopolitical interests, at the crossroads of the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa.

In the airport Hall of Honor, the two heads of state had a one-on-one, addressing topics at the heart of bilateral cooperation: economy, maritime security, education, as well as major regional issues, including the crises in Sudan and Palestine.

According to a source close to the Djibouti presidency, the meeting allowed to “reaffirm a shared will to build a lasting partnership based on solidarity, mutual respect and ongoing consultation on regional challenges”.

This high-level visit, President Al-Sissi’s second to Djibouti since 2021, reflects growing diplomatic activism between the two countries, in the context of strategic composition in the Horn of Africa, where the influence of Arab powers is becoming increasingly visible.

The next few hours will be marked by expanded interviews with delegations and, according to official sources, the signing of new cooperation agreements in key sectors.
