**Somaliland’s Path to International Recognition** It is important to clarify that Somaliland is not a sovereign nation.
The Somaliland Republic did not gain its independence from the United Kingdom on June 26, 1960. Rather, Somaliland is a region within Somalia. Claims that portray Somaliland as an independent country are misleading.
Somalia is the recognized independent nation, and it deserves respect as such. This report is intended for the upcoming world government summit hosted by the UAE, which may have an interest in recognising Somaliland as an independent country. It is crucial to emphasise the facts regarding Somaliland’s status to ensure informed discussions at the summit.
The current administration in Somaliland, led by its regional leaders, is accused of perpetrating violence and massacres in the neighboring Awdal region. This administration appears to be primarily focused on profit, disregarding the welfare of the people under its governance.
Awdal is strategically important, and there are concerns that the UAE may be seeking to support Ethiopia, a landlocked country, in accessing the coastline through this region. Additionally, the UAE’s involvement is linked to partnerships with Israel and the USA, who aim to utilise land in the Awdal region.
Furthermore, the UAE is reportedly leveraging oil money to acquire land in Awdal, which is not part of Somaliland but rather a region within Somalia.
Somaliland’s claims of being a country are questioned due to its governance and the challenges it faces. This raises concerns about the legitimacy of its administration and its aspirations for recognition.
