London on Saturday, September 28, 2024
Saturday, September 28 marks the annual commemoration day for the victims of the Paris cafe bombing on September 27, 1990 in Djibouti. This year, the 34th anniversary of this poignant tragedy will be honoured with a different approach, with a virtual event organised by the UK CVCP team.
The Duty of Remembrance and the Mobilization for Justice will be celebrated in a new form, marking a significant milestone in the annual commemoration.
The tragedy of the Paris cafe attack has profoundly marked Djibouti’s history, leaving indelible stigmas in the heart of our nation. This senseless act has claimed the life of an innocent child and seriously injured seventeen people, leaving the community murdered and mourning. On this day of remembrance, it is essential to remember the victims, as well as the 350 souls who endured the brutal repression that followed that fateful night.
The commemorative event will take the form of a virtual discussion involving participants from around the world, thanks to the Zoom platform, allowing for collective mobilization and awareness globally. This initiative reflects our commitment to preserving the memory of this tragedy and promoting justice, unity and peace.
The annual commemoration is an occasion to gather, reflect, and testify. United by the burden of memory, we have the duty to restore the dignity of our motto: unity, equality, peace. Let’s keep the flame of the memory of this cursed night burning, so that history does not repeat itself, so that justice and peace may prevail. Let’s stay vigilant, let’s stay united, so that the light can finally dispel the darkness of this dark September. KA DAAWO HALKAN
