Our story
One newsroom, one audience, a new name. The chapters below describe how the station grew from AyroTV into the multilingual GNTV Digital of today.
AyroTV
The station began life as AyroTV, producing Somali-language studio programmes, debate and community reporting for viewers at home and in the diaspora. The name still carries the audience that made the channel: ayrotv.com remains the address many of them know.
The rename
As the output moved from a single broadcast channel to a full digital newsroom — written stories, video, podcasts, an archive desk and children's programming — the channel was rebranded GNTV Digital, working alongside the sister channel Global Network TV.
Today
GNTV Digital publishes Somali first, with the languages of the Horn and East Africa added as material is produced: news and regional desks, established programme strands, heritage documentaries, podcasts and GNTV Kids.
Founding dates, licence details and staff numbers are deliberately left out until GNTV supplies the verified record.
