Condemnation of the Ethno-Supremacist Regime in Hargeisa

0

Recent events in the Somali region of Ethiopia have revealed the true nature of the regime operating in Hargeisa, often misrepresented as a democratic entity. The reality is starkly different; it is an ethno-supremacist regime that employs land grabbing tactics and operates with a militia-like mentality. The so-called “Somaliland” army is nothing more than a tribal militia that has repeatedly targeted peaceful civilians in the Somali region, particularly in the Jarar region.

For far too long, the Awdal State Movement and the SSC Khatoumo have been sounding the alarm regarding the dangers posed by this regime. Their warnings have been tragically validated by the genocidal actions witnessed last year in Laascanood and the ongoing crimes against humanity occurring in Ceerigaabo. With the backing of influential figures like Scott Perry and Dr. J. Phram, this regime has become emboldened, feeling untouchable as they send their so-called “army” across the border to perpetrate violence and murder against Somali citizens in regions such as Dacawaleey, and

 Duud Bidaale.

The international community, particularly the UK (RRU) and Ethiopia, must acknowledge their complicity in enabling this violence. Training Isaaq militias has only served to exacerbate tensions and has led to the suffering of countless innocent people. Awdal State Movement, SSC Khatoumo, and Maakhir State have consistently reiterated that “Somaliland” is not a legitimate country but rather an oppressive regime targeting anyone who is not Isaaq.

It is time to cease the portrayal of this ethno-supremacist regime as a beacon of democracy. Instead, it should be treated as an apartheid-like entity that deserves sanctions for its actions. The international community must recognize the ongoing atrocities and the need for accountability.

The Somali people are united as brothers, and the situation has been adequately managed by the Somali region’s state and its security forces. However, the continued aggression from Hargeisa poses a significant threat to peace and stability. The regime’s actions have resulted a genocide in Lascanood, the killing and the displacement of hundreds of Harti tribe in Ceerigaabo, and the torture, beating, and imprisonment of hundreds of women and young boys in Awdal, Salal, and Gabiley Districts, further demonstrating its repressive nature.

In conclusion, the regime in Hargeisa must be condemned for its violent actions and the aggravation of an already delicate situation. The international community must take a stand against these crimes and support the calls from the Awdal State Movement and SSC Khatoumo for justice and accountability. It is a critical moment to safeguard the rights and dignity of all Somali people and to put an end to the cycle of violence and oppression.
