Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale has ordered the immediate closure of Fay’s Bistro club in Kilimani. Nairobi over noise violations.
In a message posted on X, Duale noted that a team from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and officers attached to the agency are on site to enforce the closure.
“Let this serve as a stern warning to all clubs operating in residential areas. Any that continue to play loud music will face the same action. This impunity will not be tolerated! he stated.
The order follows a raid by officials from the Nairobi City County Government on Saturday evening after a series of noise complaints from local residents.
The raid was part of the county’s ongoing effort to curb noise pollution in residential areas.
The raid was reportedly conducted after repeated warnings to the club’s management about the excessive noise.
The closure order comes just a month after Quivers Club Kilimani announced that it will stop playing loud music.
The decision was made just hours after county officials revealed plans to shut down the popular club due to noise pollution.
“Following the current development based on the views of our neighbourhood and in the spirit of unity, environment conservation, and the numerous telephone conversations between our wonderful neighbours and our management, we wish to bring this groundbreaking decision to public attention. we will be the first club to embrace an innovative concept by not playing music,” the club said.
The lounge is located near the State House, Department of Defence and residential areas.
The club noted that by removing loud music, guests can still eat, drink, and have fun while engaging in more meaningful conversations.
“Our unique approach aims to create a space where guests can fully enjoy their time without the distraction of loud music. We believe people can still have a great time connecting, sharing in the joy of togetherness.” Quivers stated.
The club’s management assured that its dedicated staff would be available to ensure guests feel welcomed and entertained.
