Nairobi – The Russian Center for Unmanned Systems and Technologies (CBST) has presented a new lineup of specialized interceptor drones at the “Archipelago-2025” forum in Skolkovo, signaling a potential shift in Russia’s approach to countering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Notably, some of the showcased designs reportedly bear similarities to solutions previously observed in Ukrainian interceptor drones, according to reports from TheDeadDistrict via X.

Among the unveiled systems, the Skvorets-PVO stands out with its vertical take-off capability and an artificial intelligence-driven auto-targeting system. Developers claim this interceptor can achieve speeds of up to 270 km/h, suggesting a focus on rapid response and autonomous target acquisition.

Another prominent model is the Kinzhal, boasting a higher reported top speed of 300 km/h. The CBST states that the Kinzhal is also capable of independently engaging targets and can be integrated into a broader automated UAV detection network, indicating an effort to create a layered and interconnected counter-drone defense system.

The exhibition also featured the BOLT interceptor, which is presented as part of a comprehensive counter-UAV complex. This system relies on radar-based target detection, with targeting information potentially provided manually by an operator or integrated from existing air defense radar systems, highlighting a multi-source approach to threat detection.

Expanding beyond aerial interception, CBST introduced the Krestnik-M, a drone specifically designed to target moving maritime objects. Its versatility is underscored by its ability to be launched from land, sea, or air platforms. The Krestnik-M features a distinctive V-tail design and straight wings that deploy post-launch, suggesting a focus on efficient deployment and maneuverability over water.

Completing the showcased aerial interceptors is the Ovod-PVO, a multi-role quadcopter designed for capturing and neutralizing hostile UAVs. This system offers flexibility in its payload, capable of carrying either a kinetic impactor or an integrated system for detonating an explosive charge near the target.

This development comes after earlier reports indicating that Russian forces, particularly the “Rubicon” unit, have adopted anti-drone tactics initially employed by Ukraine. These tactics have reportedly led to a significant increase in the number of Ukrainian reconnaissance UAVs, such as the Leleka, Horlytsia, Shark, and FlyEye, being downed.

The unveiling of these new interceptor drones, with their apparent design parallels to Ukrainian systems, suggests a learning curve in Russia’s counter-UAV strategy. It remains to be seen how effective these new systems will be in operational environments and what impact they will have on the ongoing dynamics of drone warfare.
