Ayrotv.com- Waraqa dhigta- The situation in Awdal, Salal, and Gabiley District highlights a poignant struggle for self-determination and the fight against oppression, particularly in the context of the complex socio-political landscape of Somalia. This analysis examines the role of self-appointed leaders with PhDs and political experience who, despite their educational and professional backgrounds, have failed to advocate effectively for the rights of the Awdal people. Instead, they appear to have succumbed to corruption and self-interest, undermining the very cause they profess to support.

These individuals, once dormant in the face of adversity, have re-emerged to call for unity and leadership selection among the Awdal people. However, their motivations raise critical questions: What kind of leadership do they propose? From where will this leadership emerge, and under what circumstances? Their sudden activism is starkly contrasted against the backdrop of ongoing injustices, including land invasions by the Isaaq sub-clan of Habar Awal and the Djibouti regime. This context underscores a disconnection between the self-appointed leaders and the realities faced by their constituents.

The Awdal State Movement stands as a testament to grassroots activism, led by educated individuals committed to the cause of their people. This movement has emerged organically, without external/internal  financing or ulterior motives for personal gain. Its members have dedicated themselves to raising awareness about the injustices faced by the Awdal people, engaging in diplomatic efforts to garner support, writing articles, and commemorating the atrocities of the past, such as the imprisonment of their elected member ( Mohamed Abib) , the destruction of building and business of famous Gadaboursi female singer (Tusmo), the genocide committed by the SNM and Ethiopian soldiers in 1991.

In contrast, the so-called intellectuals and politicians have often been preoccupied with maintaining their positions within the federal government or aligning with ethno-supremacist regimes. Their absence during critical moments of struggle casts doubt on their current intentions. Are they genuinely interested in uniting the Awdal people, or do they view this as an opportunity for personal advancement? The lack of genuine commitment to the cause raises ethical concerns and calls for a critical examination of their integrity.

For the people of Awdal, the path forward requires discernment and unity. The Awdal State Movement, with its growing membership and dedication to the liberation of their regions, presents a viable alternative to the self-serving narratives of the past. To reject the influence of those who prioritize personal gain over collective well-being is essential for fostering a resilient community. A true leader must emerge from the ranks of those who have demonstrated unwavering dedication to the cause, rather than from the remnants of a political elite that has failed to protect the rights and dignity of their people.

In conclusion, the struggle for self-determination in Awdal, Salal, and Gabiley District necessitates a critical reevaluation of leadership and commitment. The Awdal State Movement symbolizes hope and progress, urging the people of Awdal to unite behind those who genuinely advocate for their rights. By standing firm against opportunism and aligning with true leaders, the Awdal people can collectively pursue a future marked by justice, autonomy, and empowerment.
