Urgent Call for Action: Ethiopia’s Continued Violations of Somalia’s Sovereignty

0

Ayrotv.com Old Amout-The ongoing infringement by Ethiopia on Somalia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty has reached alarming levels, necessitating immediate attention from the international community and the African Union (AU). Recent developments have highlighted this pressing issue, particularly with Ethiopian fighter jets repeatedly violating Somali airspace. Just today, reports emerged of Ethiopian jets flying low from the Jigjiga region, passing over Borama and extending towards Lughaya. Such actions not only threaten Somalia’s sovereignty but also contravene international law, raising serious concerns about regional stability.

The repeated incursions by Ethiopian aircraft serve as a stark reminder of the need for a robust response from the Somali federal government. It is imperative that Somalia takes decisive action to safeguard its airspace and protect its citizens. One potential course of action is to bolster the capabilities of the Awdal State Movement’s national army, providing them with necessary resources, including anti-air missile systems. This strategic support would empower local forces to effectively defend against aerial violations and reinforce Somalia’s commitment to its territorial integrity.

Ethiopia’s aggressive posture towards Somalia appears to reflect a broader strategy aimed at undermining Somali sovereignty. Such behavior not only jeopardizes the security of Somalia but also has the potential to destabilize the entire Horn of Africa region. The international community, along with the African Union, must recognize the gravity of this situation and respond accordingly. Imposing sanctions and enacting an arms embargo against Ethiopia would send a clear message that violations of territorial integrity will not be tolerated.

The Ethiopian leadership’s actions are not just a matter of bilateral relations; they pose a significant threat to regional peace and security. As the situation continues to escalate, it is essential that the Somali federal government takes a proactive stance. This includes deploying anti-air missiles and reinforcing military presence in the Awdal region, a strategically vital area for Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity.

In conclusion, the violations by Ethiopia against Somalia are a serious concern that requires urgent action from both the Somali federal government and the international community. The African Union must step up and address these violations head-on, ensuring that Ethiopia is held accountable for its actions. It is crucial that Somalia is equipped and supported to defend its sovereignty, as the stability of the region hangs in the balance. The time for decisive action is now; the future of Somalia and its territorial integrity depends on it.
