Rise, Gadaboursi: A Call to Action for Awdal’s Future

Ayrotv-Qulujeed-To the resilient people of Awdal, particularly the Gadaboursi community, this message serves as a reminder of your rich history and a call to action for a brighter future. The legacy of the Gadaboursi is deeply woven into the fabric of the Adal Empire, a dynasty that once flourished and was recognized across Europe, China, India, and Africa. However, the past century has cast a shadow over this noble heritage, marked by struggles and oppression.

For the Gadaboursi, the last hundred years have been particularly challenging. Colonial powers and their Somali collaborators systematically marginalized your community, stripping away political agency and economic opportunities. The colonial era sought to erase your identity and contributions, pushing you further away from the decision-making processes that shape your future. After the collapse of the military regime, other tribes in Somalia seized the opportunity to forge their own destinies, but the Gadaboursi found themselves still constrained, often entrusting their future to a regime led by those who have historically undermined their success.

In light of these challenges, the leaders of the Awdal State Movement urge you to reflect on your current situation and the choices before you. They pose crucial questions that demand honest introspection:

1. Questioning Loyalty: The regime in Hargeisa, dominated by Isaaq, has been responsible for the loss of many Gadaboursi lives, particularly between Dilla and Kalabaydh They have failed to deliver justice for these atrocities. Why, then, do you continue to support a regime that does not acknowledge your equality or humanity?

2. Envisioning the Future: What kind of future do you want for your children? Do you wish for them to grow up as second-class citizens, or do you envision a place where they can thrive, free from oppression and fully in control of their destiny?

3. Addressing Silence: Even among their own women, the Gadaboursi are referred to as slaves. Why do you remain silent in the face of such degradation? It is time to reclaim your dignity and assert your rightful place in society.

The Awdal State Movement is dedicated to ensuring that the world recognizes the glorious past of the Gadaboursi and stands firmly against the injustices faced by your community. The time has come to say, “Enough is enough.” Together, we can build a future where your voices are heard and your rights are respected for generations to come.

The leaders of the Awdal State Movement call upon you to rise for your dignity, for the future of your children, and for justice. It is enough of bearing the burden of oppression of seeking permission for what is inherently yours. Stand together, Gadaboursi, for a new dawn is on the horizon.

Together with the Awdal State Movement, let us reclaim our narrative, honour our past, and pave the way for a prosperous future. Stand up, rise up, and unite for the cause that binds us all—the dream of a dignified, free, and just society for the Gadaboursi people.
